Leon was stated to have been born in Chester, England, on the 28th March, 1893. He enlisted in Sudbury, Ontario, 19th June 1916, stating his occupation as a fitter, and his next of kin as his wife, Marie Holmes, of Crean Hill, Ontario.
He was five feet two and a half inches in height, had a clear complexion, brown eyes and brown hair, and belonged to the Church of England.
